Foley Hoag expands IP department

Law firm Foley Hoag has expanded its intellectual property department by hiring two new partners.

Before joining Foley, Susan Abelleira and Alexander Akhiezer worked at US-based IP law firm Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds.

They will both join Foley’s Boston office.

Abelleira’s practice focuses on the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, where she has dealt with a variety of IP issues including patent prosecution, non-infringement and portfolio management.

Akhiezer advises clients on patent life cycle management in different sectors including medical devices, optical systems, and pharmaceuticals.

Adam Kahn, co-managing partner at Foley, said: “Susan’s and Alex’s impressive scientific backgrounds and intellectual property law experience will add important value to our intellectual property department.”
