Mylan probed for information on generic antibiotic pricing

The US government has asked pharmaceutical company Mylan to testify with information on the price of a generic antibiotic product it makes.

In a subpoena sent to Mylan, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) asked it to provide information on the marketing and price of its generic doxycycline product.

The subpoena, issued on Thursday, December 3, also asked for information on Mylan’s communications about the drug with competitors.

The drug is used to treat bacterial infections including acne, pneumonia, and syphilis.

Mylan revealed in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on December 4 that it had been sent the writ.

The short filing read: “On December 3, a subsidiary of Mylan (the company) received a subpoena from the antitrust division of the US Department of Justice seeking information relating to the marketing, pricing and sale of our generic doxycycline products and any communications with competitors about such products.

“The company intends to fully cooperate with the DoJ’s inquiry.”
