Radcliffe leaves Mayer Brown for Charles Russell

Patent litigator Jonathan Radcliffe has left Mayer Brown to become partner at Charles Russell LLP.

A life sciences specialist, Radcliffe often focuses on cases with a high scientific or technological content in the pharmaceutical or medical devices sectors.

He has also been involved in cases involving the patentability of software and the registration of shape trademarks.

Charles Russell says he is one of only two English solicitors to have had both a patent appeal and a separate trademark appeal sent to the UK Supreme Court.

“The team’s reputation for providing an excellent professional service is what attracted me to the firm, and drawing on my own experience I look forward to contributing to the firm’s strategy to be a client-valued practice,” Radcliffe said.

Patrick Gearon, head of Charles Russell’s IP group, said Radcliffe’s arrival brings “additional firepower” to the IP team.

“His industry experience perfectly complements our sector focus, offering our clients the additional benefit of not only being a great lawyer, but a real in-depth understanding of their industries. This appointment reflects the growing demand for these services, both in the UK and further afield.”

A Mayer Brown spokesman said the firm thanked Radcliffe for his work and wishes him well in the future.

“We are continuing with our strategy of further strengthening our London IP practice in a number of areas, including hard and soft IP litigation, taking advantage of our global platform for this type of work,” the spokesman added.
