Trump to ‘streamline’ the FDA and lower drug prices

US President Donald Trump has said that he intends to lower drug prices and speed up the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval process for new drugs.

According to a press release published by the White House yesterday, January 31, highlighting the president’s “listening session” with pharmaceutical industry leaders, Trump said: “For Medicare, for Medicaid, we have to get the prices way down, so that's what we're going to be talking about.”

He added that he is going to be streamlining the process of getting drugs approved.

Trump explained that he is going to “get rid of [the] tremendous number of regulations”.

In the session, Trump also talked about appointing a new leader to streamline the FDA in order to speed up the process of drug approval.

The person was not revealed, but Trump said that he will be naming the person “fairly soon”.
