Andrea Borucki is responsible for global patent and general legal attorneys at Dow AgroSciences, an innovator of biotechnology and chemical solutions in the agricultural sector. She has worked for the company for almost 25 years since starting her career at Dow in 1992.

Dow provides a variety of products and services to meet the needs of its customers through research with strategic partners. The company aims to bring “breakthrough and sustainable solutions” to the industry.

Dow has worked with innovative hybrids and seeds varieties, crop-enhancing traits, crop protection products, pasture and land management, residential pest control, and healthy oils, among others.

The company says on its website: “Walk through any supermarket, and you clearly see sustainable advances have been made in food production, variety, and quality. Now more than ever, there is a critical need for new breakthroughs.”

According to Dow, global population forecasts show overall food production must be boosted by about 70% in four decades.

Dow adds: “Although our natural resources are limited, the potential for agricultural production advances is not.”

The company employs more than 9,000 people worldwide, and its 2016 global sales reached $6.2 billion.

Borucki is responsible for the development and implementation of IP legal strategies for protecting innovations, as well as freedom to operate. She is also in charge of Dow’s China business.

Her areas of focus include patents, antitrust, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, contracts, anti-counterfeiting, re-examinations, oppositions, nullities and litigation.
