Brown Rudnick boosts practice with London hire

New addition comes from Fieldfisher | Practice will extend across the US, UK and Continental Europe | renewables and cleantech.

Brown Rudnick has appointed David Knight as an IP partner to expand the firm’s transatlantic IP practice.

Knight joins from Fieldfisher and will be based in the firm’s London office.

Charged with leading the firm’s UK and European IP practice, Knight will work closely with Brown Rudnick’s US team to serve clients on that side of the Atlantic as well.

Knight’s practice covers the full range of IP rights, with a particular focus on patents. He advises companies on both offensive and defensive patent litigation and on corporate matters, including structuring, transactions, and licensing.

His clients include UK, US, and European companies across a broad range of technology and life science segments, including medical devices and scientific instrumentation, renewables and cleantech, aerospace, the blockchain, oil and gas, printing, computer games, household products, and construction.

Vince Guglielmotti, CEO and chairman of Brown Rudnick, said: “We are delighted to welcome David as a partner in our Firm’s transatlantic IP practice. Among Brown Rudnick’s five key pillars are technology and life sciences, and David’s deep experience in these areas further enhances our ability to provide top-notch client service across these industry sectors.

“His stellar reputation for patent litigation in the UK, Europe, and the US also complements our market-leading litigation practices on both sides of the Atlantic.”

Mark Dorff, managing director of the firm’s corporate  and capital markets department, said: “David is an IP veteran with unparalleled IP know-how in the UK, the US, and Europe and we are thrilled that he is joining our firm to share his tremendous experience with our clients, many of whom are innovators.

“His practice is the ideal complement to our firm’s corporate practice, which works with exciting technology and life sciences companies, whose IP portfolios are often their most valuable assets.”

Commenting on his appointment, Knight said: “Brown Rudnick’s leadership in technology, life sciences, and the energy transition played a key role in my decision to join the firm. The deep sector knowledge at the firm in the US and the UK, and the culture of collaboration that exists across practices and jurisdictions makes a real difference to clients and in my opinion is what really sets the firm apart.

“There is no doubt that London will continue to be an important hub for IP disputes and one of our key areas of focus will be advising our clients on both sides of the Atlantic on their IP litigation strategy once the Unified Patent Court opens its doors next year.”

Knight joins a number of key strategic hires made by Brown Rudnick this year, including James Douglass as co-chair of the firm’s energy transition practice group.
