Buyout of Thomson Reuters IP & Science division completed

The $3.6 billion acquisition of the Thomson Reuters Intellectual Property & Science business by Onex Corporation and Baring Equity Asia was completed yesterday.

The new company will be known as Clarivate Analytics, which according to a statement will enable users to discover, protect and commercialise their ideas faster.

It will continue to focus on scientific and academic research, patent analytics and regulatory standards, trademark protection, pharmaceutical and biotech intelligence, brand protection and IP management.

Vin Caraher, Clarivate Analytics CEO, said:“We’re excited to move forward as an expert, objective and agile source of authoritative knowledge.

“Our solutions sit at the centre of almost every major university, government and business, supporting those working within the lifecycle of innovation who strive to make a difference.”

The acquisition was first announced on July 11.

Clarivate Analytics will operate immediately, and the new branding will be implemented across the company’s products and services beginning in early 2017.
