The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) and biotech company Canfield Scientific have sued Quantificare, a company manufacturing imaging solutions for clinical trials and physicians, for patent infringement.
The case, which was filed on Friday, May 26 at the US District Court for the Northern District of California, involves US patent number 6,571,003.
Patent ‘003, titled “Skin imaging and analysis systems and methods”, belongs to P&G and is licensed to Canfield.
According to the complaint, Quantificare has imported products embodying the invention of the ‘003 patent.
The accused products are marketed under the names LifViz Infinity, LifViz Mini and DermaViz.
P&G said: “Quantificare has known of the ‘003 patent ... since at least on or about March 3, 2017.”
It added: “As a consequence of the acts of infringement by defendants, plaintiffs have been damaged in an amount not yet determined, and plaintiffs will continue to be irreparably harmed ... until Quantificare is enjoined ... from committing further acts of infringement.”
Besides asking the court for a permanent injunction, the suing companies have also asked for an award of damages and a jury trial.
