LSIPR 50 2018: Iana Dimkova

Name: Iana Dimkova

Organisation: GE Ventures

Position: Director of Healthcare Investing

To be a successful business in the 21st century, innovation must play a crucial role in developing solutions, regardless of the industry. The healthcare sector is not exempt from this requirement and Iana Dimkova, director of GE Ventures’ healthcare investing team, is well aware of this.

“Continued access to capital is crucial to the ability to develop novel solutions, especially within the med tech and therapeutic arenas,” explains Dimkova.

Assisting companies throughout the early stages of developing innovative healthcare solutions plays a pivotal role in Dimkova’s job role.

“We aim to provide our portfolio companies with unrivalled access to a global network of expertise and resources and build meaningful relationships both inside and outside GE. More than 50% of our portfolio companies have a relationship with our business units.”

“Continued access to capital is crucial to the ability to develop novel solutions."

She explains that GE Ventures is fortunate to be in the position where it can have the ability to back “incredible entrepreneurs” who are improving the manner in which healthcare is delivered for the benefit of patients everywhere.

Of course, innovation plays an important role in the success of her sector, although it does come with its challenges. “Continued uncertainty regarding the implementation and sustainability of the Affordable Care Act is impacting all stakeholders—from heath systems to payors,” she acknowledges. “Early stage companies are having to adapt their solutions to constantly evolving market conditions.”
