DLA Piper announces new life sciences Dublin office amid Brexit

UK-based law firm DLA Piper has announced that it will open a new office in Dublin, Ireland in light of Brexit.

The office will focus on the life sciences sector, as well as financial services and technology.

Simon Levine, global co-CEO of DLA Piper, said that the firm had been considering an office in Dublin for some time and has been consulting with clients about the prospect. He added that now is the right time to enter into the Irish market.

“Dublin is an important legal market and a key global hub for the financial services and technology sectors, in addition to being well located to support our global tax practice, and will continue to be so, particularly in the context of Brexit, as we expect more institutions to have or develop a presence in the country.”

Andrew Darwin, global co-chairman of DLA Piper, said that the Dublin office will make the law firm “the only truly global law firm” with a presence in the city.

He said DLA Piper’s global commitment to “high-quality service”, coupled with its business-focused approach, innovation and diversity, will present “significant opportunities” for Irish solicitors and tax advisors seeking to develop an international practice.

David Carthy will join DLA Piper’s new Dublin office from William Fry. Carthy specialises in mergers and acquisitions.
