California man admits making counterfeit Merial labels

A California-based man has pleaded guilty to manufacturing counterfeit veterinary product labels.

According to a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) press release from Monday, May 15, Michael Wang admitted sending the counterfeit products to Houston, Texas.

The guilty plea was announced by acting US attorney Abe Martinez of the Southern District of Texas.

Wang had directed the manufacture of counterfeits of Frontline and Frontline Plus, which are trademarks registered by animal health company Merial.

ICE said: “Wang intentionally caused the manufacture of counterfeit labels and packaging of copyrighted or trademarked items to make the packaging appear legitimate.”

Wang’s sentencing is set for July 24, and he faces up to ten years in prison and a possible $2 million fine.
