CMS promotes two to partnership in London

International law firm CMS has promoted two attorneys from its IP team in London to partner.

Rachel Free and Jane Evenson work on the firm’s patents team, which will now have five partners.

Everson works with the firm’s clients in the life sciences and chemistry fields, with a strong focus on biopharmaceuticals such as antibody technologies. Free, who has been at the firm since it merged with Olswang in 2017, focuses her practice on AI and computer science.

Robert Stephen, head of the patent attorney practice at CMS, welcomed the promotion.

“Jane brings significant European Patent Office opposition and appeal expertise and will further support and develop our rapidly growing life science practice, in particular in the antibody and biologics space,” he said.

Stephen added: “Rachel’s expertise in AI and computer science has been in high demand as our clients look to protect their AI-based innovation.”

These appointments are the latest in a long run of promotions at the firm. It recently promoted 49 to partner across 23 cities globally.

In the UK alone 23 new partners have now been appointed, 18 of whom are women.
