GE accused of infringing hygiene monitoring product

UK-based medical technologies manufacturer Hill-Rom has sued General Electric (GE), claiming that the company infringes three patents covering hygiene monitoring systems.

Hill-Rom filed the case at the US District Court for the District of Virginia, Eastern Division on May 2.

It concerns General Electric’s Agile Trac product, a system that uses infrared and radio waves to signal whether people or staff are complying with existing hygiene protocols when entering patient zones.

Hill-Rom said that GE wilfully infringed its ‘818 patent and has asked for up to three times the damages from the product’s revenue.

It also claims that GE infringed two patents that cover designs for a hygiene sensory system that detects how much soap is being dispensed and a computer storage that records compliance.
