IPH firm unveils new MD in Sydney

Firm promotes life sciences lead | New managing partner will play a role in international IP services group.

Spruson & Ferguson has appointed Simon Potter as its new managing director in Australia, who steps up to the role from his previous position as head of the Australian chemical/life  sciences team.

He has been a director at Spruson & Ferguson Australia since 2019, and is an experienced patent attorney also holding a PhD in medical research.

Potter joined the firm 16 years ago, and will be based in the firm’s Sydney office.

Commenting on his new position, he said: “I am excited to take on this role and to continue to work with my exceptional colleagues in this new capacity. We have a great team who will continue to service our clients well, and work hard to grow our business.”

Spruson & Ferguson is a member of the IP services group, IPH Group, comprising a network of member firms working in nine IP jurisdictions and servicing more than 25 countries. The group also includes IP  firms AJ Park, Griffith Hack,  Pizzeys, Smart & Biggar, and online IP services  provider Applied Marks. IPH employs more than 1,200 people working in Australia, Canada, China,  Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand.

Also commenting, John O’Shea, chief operating officer at IPH said: “Simon brings a tremendous combination of technical, people and business development leadership skills to the managing director role and I have every confidence that he will be an outstanding addition to both the IPH Group and Spruson & Ferguson leadership teams.”
