Japan and India to launch new research centres

A Japanese research institution has collaborated with three Indian organisations to launch two new virtual centres for scientists and students.

Riken, Japan's largest research organisation, has joined forces with the National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS), the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific research (JNCASR) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

The partnership will create two new centres, the Riken-NCBS Joint Research Center and the Riken-JNCASR-IISc Joint Research Center.

The centres will facilitate scientific exchange and foster collaborations between Japan and India in biology, life sciences and materials science.

The Riken-JNCASR-IISc Joint Research Center will support collaboration and facilitate the exchange of research scientists and students and the Riken-NCBS Joint Research Center will focus on supporting the exchange of research staff, postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students working in biological sciences.

The development builds on long-standing collaborations between researchers at NCBS and Riken.
