O’Melveny hires partner from Paul Hastings

US-based law firm O’Melveny has hired Hassen Sayeed as a partner in its IP and technology practice group in New York.

O’Melveny announced the news on Monday, October 1.

Sayeed previously worked as a partner at Los Angeles-based law firm Paul Hastings.

He specialises in counselling life sciences companies in all areas of patent litigation. According to O’Melveny, Sayeed is one of the few US-based IP lawyers to have a medical degree.

Sayeed has experience dealing with patent litigation involving biosimilars, as well as experience in the pharmaceutical, medical devices and biotechnology industries. He has represented companies including AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Bayer Healthcare.

“We’re excited to welcome Hassen to the firm as we continue to expand our life sciences capabilities to fit our clients’ needs,” said Bradley Butwin, chair of O’Melveny.

“Few patent lawyers can offer Hassen’s in-depth experience in pharmaceutical and biotech litigation. His arrival gives the O’Melveny team another important advantage and reflects our commitment to life sciences innovation.”
