Questel acquires French big data company

IP service provider Questel has acquired France-based Expernova, a company specialising in scientific big data.

Founded in 2008, Expernova captures and analyses global innovation activity, using big data and machine learning to “connect the dots for global scientific and technological landscapes”.

Pascal Magnier, CEO of Expernova, said: “This alliance will create unparalleled research and development (R&D) capacities in scientific and technological information, analysing over 10 million expert profiles, 100 million scientific documents, and the world’s most comprehensive patent database”.

Through the acquisition, Questel plans to deliver a platform which offers R&D teams the resources and knowledge they need to identify future technologies and monitor the changing environment.

Charles Besson, Questel CEO, added: “This software combination will facilitate and speed up collaboration between IP experts and R&D teams.”
