(WATCH) Lisa Ferri of Mayer Brown on the COVID-19 waiver
Talks over a COVID-19 vaccine waiver ended this week at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, with an agreement to work towards a text-based response to the plan.
A WTO statement said all sides agreed to “engage constructively” in a discussion based on two proposals: the revised waiver and the European Union’s urgent trade policy responses, which includes greater use of compulsory licensing (more here).
In May, the Biden administration backed the original waiver, causing consternation among rights owners.
In early June, LSIPR spoke with Lisa Ferri, global co-chair of Mayer Brown’s IP practice and life sciences group about the US position and what it might mean for vaccine makers, pharma, and the international response to the pandemic.
