Greatbatch secures $37.5m patent victory in pacemaker dispute

Medical devices maker Greatbatch has secured a $37.5 million patent victory at a US court.

Yesterday, January 26, the US District Court for the District of Delaware ruled that AVX infringed two of Greatbatch’s patents related to defibrillator technology.

“Greatbatch is committed to challenging wilful and deliberate patent infringement and to taking all steps necessary to ensure that our intellectual property is protected,” Thomas Hook, chief executive of Greatbatch, said.

Greatbatch sued AVX for infringement in April 2013.

The damages award followed a rejection of AVX’s challenge that the patents are invalid.
