Barnes & Thornburg has fortified its IP department with the addition of the former chair of Patterson Thuente Pedersen’s patent practice group.
Brad Pedersen, who will join the firm’s Minneapolis office, has more than 35 years of experience in the IP field and has written and prosecuted more than 1,000 patents.
Pedersen formerly served as a principal for more than 20 years at Patterson Thuente Pedersen, where he was chair of the patent practice group.
Julia Gard, chair of the firm’s IP department, said: “Brad has worked in many areas of patent law, from medical devices to unmanned aircraft, giving him a unique perspective on the crossover areas between patent law and high-technology that will help us better serve our clients.
“There is tremendous value in attorneys who can serve as an extension of their clients in the complex disputes that come with IP.”
Pedersen focuses his practice on post grant and inter partes review (IPR) proceedings, patent prosecution strategy, clearance, licensing and litigation covering the high-technology and medical device areas.
During his career, Pedersen has served as both litigation counsel and as an expert witness assisting trial counsel.
He has also served as in-house counsel for a medical technology startup, and he began his career in the patent group of a general practice firm.
Earlier this month, Barnes & Thornburg announced that it had added Tina Dorr as a partner in the firm’s Atlanta office and IP department. Before joining the firm, Dorr practised at Cantor Colburn.
