Nutter adds co-chairs of IP and life sciences

Boston-based Nutter McClennen & Fish has added a team of IP professionals: three partners, two of counsels, one associate, and one technical specialist.

One of the new additions, Steven Saunders, will act as co-chair of the firm’s IP department, and another, Kathleen Williams, is to co-chair the life sciences practice group.

Saunders’ practice includes portfolio development, patent preparation and prosecution, inter partes reviews, litigation, and licensing.

He has advised clients on the IP aspects of investments, and mergers and acquisitions, and also handles infringement investigations. Saunders’ industry expertise covers medical devices, laboratory equipment, and the internet of things.

Saunders joins the firm from Sunstein Kann Murphy & Timbers, where he spent more than two decades.

Williams has experience in handling complex patent matters at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. She oversees IP due diligence for corporate transactions and advises clients on patentability, and her practice includes the biology, medicinal chemistry, biotechnology, and diagnostics fields.

The third partner joining Nutter is Jeffrey Klayman. Before practising law, Klayman was an engineer at Motorola, and he now counsels clients on IP and technologies including electrical storage, computer hardware, and medical devices.

In addition, Nutter has welcomed Amy DeCloux and Thomas Tuytschaevers as of counsel. Both advise clients on patent prosecution.

DeCloux’s industry expertise includes immunology, biology, and diagnostics, and Tuytschaevers has extensive experience in conducting IP and commercial due diligence.

Finally, also joining the firm’s IP department is Emmanuel Filandrianos as an associate, and Gurunathan Laxmikanthan as a technology specialist.

Deborah Manus, managing partner of Nutter, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome this dynamic group to Nutter, as they will augment the breadth and depth of our highly-regarded IP practice.”
