Swissmedic warns over counterfeit Harvoni

A Switzerland-based drug licensing agency has warned that counterfeit packs of hepatitis C drug Harvoni (ledipasvir/sofosbuvir) have been imported into Switzerland.

The Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products (Swissmedic), Switzerland’s authority for the licensing and monitoring of therapeutic products, said that counterfeit bottles of Harvoni were found in Israel and imported to Switzerland earlier this month.

Harvoni is produced by Gilead.

The plastic bottles originated in India and were imported via a Swiss trading company. The pills were white film-coated tablets instead of the genuine yellow colour, Swissmedic said.

Swissmedic added that it is working with other European authorities to establish whether the drug has been imported elsewhere.
