Foley Gardere adds partner from Baker McKenzie

Guy Birkenmeier, previously a partner in Baker McKenzie’s IP practice group, has joined Foley Gardere as a partner in the firm’s technology transactions and outsourcing practice.

He will be based in the Dallas office.

Birkenmeier assists clients with the IP aspects of technology transactions, such as asset evaluation, licensing, and sales. He has defended clients’ patents against ex parte re-examinations, and advised clients on portfolio management.

He has also counselled a range of domestic and global clients, including Fortune 500 companies, universities, and start-ups. He has particular expertise in the biotechnology and healthcare sectors.

Before becoming a lawyer, Birkenmeier spent over a decade researching microscopy, molecular biology, biochemistry, and plant physiology.

Michael Newman, managing partner of Foley Gardere’s Dallas office, said: “Guy’s unique background as both a researcher and lawyer, combined with his understanding of the local and national markets, will make him an immediately sought-after advisor.”

In April this year, Foley & Lardner and Gardere Wynne Sewell merged to form Foley Gardere.
