Health warning over counterfeit brain cancer drug

US-based Heritage Pharmaceuticals has warned customers that a counterfeit of a brain cancer treatment drug it owns is being sold abroad.

The drug has been falsely labelled Bicnu (carmustine for injection). According to Heritage, the drug is used to treat several types of brain cancer myeloma and lymphoma.

In a statement, Heritage said that to the “best of its knowledge”, the counterfeit has only been found in India, Ireland and Israel. It added that it is “consulting” with the US Food and Drug Administration to prevent further distribution and to stop it from being introduced into the US.

Heritage has notified its customers and has provided detailed information to help people spot a potential counterfeit.
