Hologics and Grifols agree $14m Enzo settlement
Enzo Life Sciences has entered into a settlement and licensing agreement with pharmaceutical companies Hologic and Grifols, ending a patent dispute between the parties.
In a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on April 16, Enzo said it would receive one-off payments from the companies in exchange for worldwide licences.
Under the terms of the agreement, Hologic will pay Enzo $10.5 million and Grifols will pay $3.5 million.
The patents in dispute were (US numbers 6,992,180; 7,064,197; 6,221,581) and cover modified nucleotides that are used in diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
In its filing, Enzo said the agreement should not be considered an admission of liability or responsibility, or lack thereof, on the part of Enzo, Hologic or Grifols.
The news comes four years after Enzo filed 12 patent suits against various companies for infringing multiple patents. Since then, it has entered into licensing agreements with many companies.
In January, Roche agreed to pay Enzo $21 million to settle a patent infringement case between the two companies.
