DLA Piper recruits life sciences lawyer for Silicon Valley

DLA Piper has appointed life sciences lawyer Shane Albright to its corporate and finance practice.

Albright joins DLA Piper’s Silicon Valley office from Hogan Lovells, where he was a partner.

He has represented life sciences companies in transactions involving IP, and has supported the completion of corporate partnering transactions, strategic alliances, technology licenses and general commercial contracts.

His specialties include biotechnology, medical devices, diagnostics, vaccines and clinical research.

“Shane has established a preeminent transactional life sciences practice and brings a strong background in advising emerging growth companies on biotech matters,” said Jay Smith, chair of the firm’s US corporate and finance practice.

“His skill set lends itself well to the licensing agreements and commercial transactions work the firm is doing across many segments of the life sciences sector.”

Rich Scudellari, who co-manages DLA Piper’s Silicon Valley office, said: “There have been numerous high-ticket M&A deals in the biotech and medical device spaces, as well as a corresponding resurgence in IPO exits and funding both at the public and private level for companies in these industries.

“The addition of Shane provides us with a terrific resource to assist these types of clients and to address the continuing stream of collaboration transactions in the life sciences sector.”

DLA Piper employs 4,200 lawyers in offices located in 30 countries in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe and the Middle East.
