Ropes & Gray hires life sciences partner from Fitzpatrick

Ropes & Gray has added Charlotte Jacobsen from Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto as a partner in the firm’s life sciences IP litigation practice.

Jacobsen will be based in the firm’s New York office. She has been working with biopharmaceutical companies for 15 years, handling global and domestic litigation. She has represented clients before the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Jacobsen has handled Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) litigation, as well as global litigation involving patent inventorship at the International Court of Arbitration.

Her patent cases have involved a range of products, including anti-cancer drugs, oral contraceptives, and cardiovascular drugs.

Before Fitzpatrick, Jacobsen practised as a barrister in London where she oversaw patent litigation. She also handled patent oppositions before the European Patent Office.

Andrew Thomases, head of Ropes & Gray’s global IP litigation practice, said: “She’s the advisor that any leading life sciences or biopharmaceutical company would want to consult because of her deep understanding of pharma and IP law, her extensive ANDA litigation experience, and her winning record handling high-stakes litigation.”

Of her appointment, Jacobsen said: “The innovative companies Ropes & Gray serves, and the challenging legal questions and issues it navigates, are a testament to the firm’s leading position in the market.”

The addition of Jacobsen comes after Filko Prugo joined the firm’s New York office in February as partner and chair of the life sciences IP litigation practice.
